Updated: October 5, 2012
Thursday afternoon at about 5:50, Officer Randy Brown responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Laurel and Westwood Drive's. APD had been advised that a two-car crash occurred and that there were no apparent injuries. Officer Brown's investigation revealed that a westbound maroon Ford Taurus, with two occupants, had crashed into the side of a northbound black Mercedes Benz C300 occupied by the driver. The driver of the Ford was a 36 year old female and the driver of the Mercedes was a 23 year old male. Traffic control devices at the intersection consisted of stop signs for traffic traveling east and west on Laurel Drive. None of the occupants reported any injuries and damage to both vehicles was minor. The driver of the Ford was cited for disobeying the stop sign. The weather and road conditions were clear and dry.

Thursday night at about 10:15, Officer David Humber contacted a motorist for a traffic violation in the 4000 block of Laurel Drive. Officer Humber contacted the male driver and observed behavior that he reported as sluggish and confused. A K-9 officer assisted in this traffic stop. During the investigation, the K-9 alerted on the vehicle for the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed one bottle of medication with assorted pills. The preliminary investigation revealed that the pills were controlled substances for which the driver did not have a prescription. The driver was arrested for two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam and clonazepam).

Friday morning at about 1:20 a.m., Officer Joshua Ward responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 200 block of North Crockett Drive. APD Dispatch was notified by a concerned person that two male subjects, identified as cousins, were fighting, had been drinking, and that one of them had a knife. Officers arrived to find both subjects on scene. The investigation revealed that they were angry concerning a disagreement about rent. A verbal altercation escalated into violence and one of the men also produced a knife. The man wielding the knife attempted to stab the other. Further investigation revealed that one of the men had a cut to his jacket and a cut near his left arm pit. The knife in question was located on the male subject and he was arrested for felony aggravated assault family violence.
