Skeezix Diner was set to open its doors for business on Monday. An employee and a maintenance man came in Friday morning to make some final preparations before the grand opening, when there was an explosion in the kitchen, destroying the building and injuring one person.

After almost four months of planning and purchasing for their new restaurant, owners of the Skeezix Diner are shifting their focus to what they are going to do now that their investment is destroyed.

"Everything in there is pretty much broken. The ceiling has been blown into pieces", says Brandon Simmons, who had plans to work at the restaurant.

Simmons was there during the explosion, and walked away without a scratch.

"There was a gentleman in the back working on a dishwasher and I don't know if there was a gas leak or something, but the next thing I know, I go walking into the kitchen and I get blown sideways", Simmons tells us.

Firefighters arrived to the scene finding one injured person who was thrown from the building, a serviceman, who was there working on the dishwasher.

"I came out the front of the building and saw him lying in the glass. I stayed with him and tried to talk to him until the paramedics came", Simmons says.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the explosion, but owners say they suspect it could have been a gas leak, though they say they never noticed a smell or any other indication of a leak.

The owners are devastated and tell us they believe the building will have to be torn down.

Owners are working on clearing out the building, and police are warning people against looting, as there will be someone there guarding the building around the clock.
