Move over chips and bologna. Take that, pre-packaged snacks. School lunches can be fun and good for you. It only takes a little imagination.
A good meal consists of four parts, whether it's for a packed school lunch or a dinner: a protein, a whole grain, a fruit or a vegetable and a heart healthy oily fat or nut.
There are several great snacks that you can add to your lunch box. One would be seasonal grapes, the concord grapes are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins and minerals that help the immune system.
Little cherry tomatoes taste like candy, slice them in half and they add beautiful color and a sweet flavor.
Experts recommend you cut up vegetables, because when vegetables are cut up and mixed together it's more likely that children will eat them.
And try to make your sandwiches with whole grain bread.  If you don't want a sandwich, pack high grain crackers and send them with a dip.
A really fun element of any meal or salad is nuts and it's a good way to get a healthy oil into your child's diet and they're crunchy.
And then put it all in a nice lunchbox with an icepack inside to keep it cool.
