Cooper High Students Hold "Coogs for the Cure" Pep Rally

Cooper High football players, cheerleaders and band members held an outdoor pep rally in South Abilene Saturday afternoon, raising money and awareness for breast cancer research.

Students sold their "Coogs for the Cure" T-shirts and wristbands in front of United Supermarket for several hours, with all of the proceeds going toward the Hope Fund at Hendrick Medical Center.

"There are 219 names on the back of our shirts of survivor and warriors given to us by students, alumni and faculty and we just want to give back to the community," said Paige Sproles of the Cooper Athletics Booster Club. "Coach Moebes likes for our student body to think outside of themselves."

Last year, the group was able to raise $22,000 dollars through the sales and hope to match or top that again this year.

The final amount collected will be presented at the annual "Coogs for the Cure" football game on Friday.

You can still purchase shirts for $15 or a wrist band for $2 at the Cooper High administration building during school hours.
