Barbequing in Buffalo Gap: Volunteer Fire Dept. Holds Annual Fundraiser

By: Homa Bash
Updated: October 7, 2012
The Buffalo Gap community barbecued all day long for the annual fire department fundraiser Saturday.

Organizers said they started preparing the meat yesterday afternoon and cooked through the night.

But the event wasn't just about food and fun -- the goal is to raise enough money for the volunteer fire department to purchase a thermal imager, a tool that could save many lives in the future..

"These are our first-responders and so many times, when there's a fire or automobile accident or medical emergency, we just need to help them stay maintained and updated with things they need to save our lives here in this community," said Debbie Ake, chairman of the outreach committee.

The money raised will also go toward buying bunker gear and other equipment needed by the volunteer department.
