By: HSU Press Release
Updated: October 8, 2012
On October 26th, Hardin-Simmons University's Department of Music and Fine Arts will sponsor a Masterclass featuring Cleveland International Piano Competition Winner, Alexander Schimpf.

The event is located on the campus of Hardin-Simmons in the Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall. Showcasing local talent of Abilene, students are given the chance to perform for this highly acclaimed vocalist.

The Masterclass begins at 3:00 p.m., concludes by 4:30 p.m. and is free to the public.

Born in Gttingen, the young pianist began his musical training as a schoolboy with Wolfgang Manz in Hanover; and he later attended the College of Music in Dresden where his teacher was Winfried Apel. He also spent many years training with Bernd Glemser in Wrzburg.

Schimpf also received decisive input for his career from the French pianist Ccile Ousset.

During the 2009/10 season, he was chosen for the German Music Council's Federal shortlist of "Concerts by Young German Artists." Concert appearances have taken him to numerous German venues, including the Gasteig in Munich, NDR Hanover, the Beethoven House in Bonn and festivals such as the Oberstdorf Summer Music Festival, the Heidelberg Spring Music Festival, and the Ludwigsburg Schloss Festival. Mr. Schimpf has received invitations to appear in France at the Auditorium du Louvre and the Salle Cortot in Paris, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and England.

Radio recordings of his concerts have been made by the BR, NDR, SWR, ORF and Radio France channels.

His first CD has been produced in collaboration with Deutschlandradio Kultur and the GENUIN label, which has been recently released.

In May of 2011, Mr. Schimpf performed Mozart's B flat Piano Concerto K595 in the Vienna Konzerthaus, and in December, 2011, he will perform his debut recital in New York City's Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall before embarking on a 50+ concert tour in the USA over the next two seasons.

Season tickets are on sale now. Single tickets are $25 and $10.
