It's been over 500 years since the ships commanded by Christopher Columbus landed in the western hemisphere, and the day is still celebrated here, including at banks, government offices and some schools.

Speaking of Columbus Day, how do you get a 13 foot statue of Christopher Columbus inside a New York City apartment?

How about building the living room around the statue.

The statue is 120-years-old and stands in the middle of New York's Columbus Circle.

Most businesses are open today in Abilene, but some banks are closed and Abilene students have the day off.

It's still a work day for Abilene school's teachers and staff.
