Updated: October 9, 2012
A young Abilene boy continues to recover after he was shot in the head during a drug deal gone wrong.

Zach Fernandez is still in a Dallas hospital, but a family member tells us he is alert and recognizes those around him.

The family member reports Zach had a successful surgery to reconstruct his face and is able to eat some solid foods.

Originally, doctors reported he would have to stay in ICU for 6 to 8 weeks, but they are already talking about moving him to a rehabilitation center.

Keegan Clark is accused of shooting the gun, on August 6 of this year, that sturck the vehicle Zack was in.

The shooting happened on North 9 and Plaza.

Clark allegedly fired shots at the vehicle as the boys' mother was driving away from the scene after a botched drug deal.

Clark will be charged with injury to a child.

He was already in jail on unrelated charges.
