TxDOT Launches Redesigned Website

By: TxDOT Press Release
Updated: October 10, 2012
The Texas Department of Transportation has launched the newly redesigned www.txdot.gov

The new website was created specifically with the needs of Texans in mind. From drivers and individuals with a business focus, to elected officials and other government staff, the new TxDOT website will undoubtedly provide much better service to all Texans who use it.

"The redesign of the TxDOT website reflects our commitment to listening to people all over the state and delivering a great customer experience," said Phil Wilson, TxDOT executive director. "We hope Texans will use our site and get the information they need faster than ever before."

The website consists of the following four sections each geared toward different audiences. Each section contains its own unique navigation, or menus, across the top of the page to help users quickly find useful information such as:

  • The Driver page highlights travel and safety, including hurricane evacuation information and winter driving safety tips.
  • The Business page is geared toward businesses ranging from the small businesses to large contractors who seek to partner with TxDOT.
  • Information on the Government page is geared toward law enforcement as well as local, state and federal officials and their staff.
  • The Inside TxDOT page provides links to agency contacts, programs, operations and office responsibilities.

The new website includes several key features and functionality that sets it apart as a true best-in-class site. For example, users will have the ability to personalize the display of local news and "How Do I?" areas on the homepage. Also, the guesswork in finding the appropriate person to contact for inquiries has been eliminated with the interactive "Contact Us" tab in the expandable footer.

Additionally, TxDOT launched the mobile site to www.txdot.gov. The mobile site helps Texans easily access news, traffic cameras, safety rest areas, road conditions and even TxDOT employment opportunities all at the touch of a smartphone (NOT to be used when driving).

"Our improved website - www.txdot.gov - was redesigned with Texans in mind and is a direct result of the feedback we received from the citizens of our great state," Wilson said. "I applaud our team at TxDOT for developing a more useful tool that can provide better service to all Texans and help us continue to be a best-in-class agency."

To ensure TxDOT continues to meet the high standards Texans have set, users have the opportunity to rate each page on a five-star scale. This feature, which is available in the "Page Options" box in each section, will allow the TxDOT team to make page adjustments based on user feedback.
