Abilene Sales Tax Revenues Decline

Official figures released today by the Texas Comptroller's Office show the amount of sales tax collected in Abilene last month was $3.4 million, down from $3.54 million last September. Other West Texas cities such as Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Lubbock, and Amarillo saw growth in sales tax revenues last month.
So far in 2012, Abilene sales tax figures are up 7.35% over last year, but the rate of growth has fallen sharply in recent months. September is the first month this year that revenues were lower than the same month in 2011.
Brownwood (-1.2%) and Sweetwater (-40.75%) also saw sales tax declines in September.
