Update: DPS Releases Name of Airman Killed in Motorcycle Accident Early Thursday

Update

DPS has released the name of the Dyess Airman who died in a motorcycle accident early Thursday morning.

Airman Stephen Caswell Freethy was driving a 2003 Suzuki Motorcycle north bound on Farm Market 707 when a second driver, Sheryl Ashby McClendon who was driving east bound on County Road 314, failed to yield right-of-way at the stop intersection.

McClendon pulled directly into the path of Freethy's motorcycle. 

Freethy, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene

The motorcycle struck McClendon's Toyota. 

The road was wet and the weather was foggy.

An Airman assigned to the 7th Logistics Readiness Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base was killed in a motorcycle accident in Abilene Thursday.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. and the cause is still under investigation by the Abilene Police Department.

The Airman's name is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
