The Abilene High Eagles came into the 2012 season was the most experienced team in District 2-5A.

Experience doesn't always translate into maturity, but it is has at Abilene High.

That maturity has been on display this season. Never more than in the final 2 minutes of the Crosstown Showdown last week. The Eagles marched the length of the field and scored the game winning touchdown with just 3 seconds to go in the game. Experience and maturity are making the difference.

AHS quarterback Evin Abbe said, "We know that anybody will step and make a play at anytime and that's great having confidence in every receiver out there on the field. Knowing that they can get the job done."

Head coach Steve Warren adds, "We practice a lot of things that don't get used every Friday night, but when it's time to use them, if you've already done that, you feel pretty about it, and we did feel confident on that last drive."

Center Chantz Anderson said, "We knew not to start panicing like some people will do. We knew not to start thinking, 'Man, we gotta hurry up and do this and do that,' and try to do more than we needed to. Everyone out there knew what their job needed to be. The  offensive line, we all knew we had to get our blocks so Evin could get the ball off. Evin knew he just had to sit back there and wait for a receiver to get open."

The District 2-5A lead is on the line tomorrow night in Midland. The 10th ranked Eagles visit the Midland Lee Rebels. Abilene High is 4-0 in district play. Midland Lee is 3-0.
