Just like many teams in the Big Country, It's been a turnaround year for the Ballinger Bearcats. Just a year ago, they finished the season 1-9, but this year, under the command of first year Head Coach Justin Wiley, they sit undefeated at 5-0.

"I'm very excited about the way our coaching staff has bought into the program that I am trying to lead, and our kids have bought into what we are doing." Says Head Coach Justin Wiley.

"It's been a long time since  we've had a 5-0 team, and the town is really pumped. The whole team is pumped." Says Riley Woodruff.

"Coach Wiley is a motivator. He encourages all of us. He sees the best in every one of us and he just encourages us. He makes us want to play for him everyday." Adds Ely Self.

"We're defense first. I think the last several years this has been an offense first school, and we changed the mentally that we need to be strong on defense and I think when you set that tone defensively than it helps your offense be more physical," continues Coach Wiley.

"To come out everyday working hard, and nothing less than 1-0 will do and so we try to strive everyday for perfection." says Self.

"We do a few unconventional things. We go for two points, and we go for it on fourth down and we change the pace of the game, and I think that the kids have bought into that and they are sold on it right now."

"We've had a lot of success the first  half, so we cant let that get to our minds, so we have to go out and keep practicing like we always have."

This team has started the season off strong, and plans to finish it the same way, but they still have five more games left in the regular season, including this Friday night's upcoming District match-up in Colorado City.
