Abilene Men 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' as Part of 'Stop the Violence'

"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" kicks off a day of violence prevention activities at the Taylor County Coliseum on Saturday, October 13, at 10:00 a.m.
Sgt. Lynn Beard of the Abilene Police Department, who is also President of the Regional Crime Victim Crisis Center, will lead the walk, wearing fashionable gold sandals.
Other tough guys, as well as young men from a number of community organizations, will join him to raise awareness of and prevention of sexual violence in our community.
Students from Texas College of Cosmetology will be on site to paint toenails for the sandaled walkers.

"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" is a way for strong men to show that physical strength is for helping, not for hurting.
The center reminds people that sexual violence is never okay, no matter what someone is wearing, what they are doing, where they are, or even if they are drunk or high.
The sad statistics are, however, that 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will be sexually abused before their 17th birthday.
Women 16 to 24 are more likely to be date raped than any other age group, but sexual violence crosses all boundaries of age, gender, ethnicity, and income.
The center asks people to report violence when you experience it or see it, and work to prevent violence among your peers.
Victims of violence can get help through the Regional Crime Victim Crisis Center.
