Thousands gathered near the Kmart parking lot along south first street to celebrate with live music, games and the annual vintage car competition.

It was all part of the 30th annual Cruise Night.

Organizers say attendance for the event has more than doubled since it began in in 1983.

"There's at least fifty vintage cars inside the area we have twenty car show finalists and thirty VIP the parking lot if full of vintage cars and this is the biggest turnout we've had," said Andi Sheldon, the manager of the event.

The event was hosted by KEAN FM.

All proceeds from the event go toward Abilene's Safety City.
