Frater Sodalis' Annual Haunted House Opens Thursday

It is that time of year again. The men of the ACU social club Frater Sodalis will be presenting The Haunted Island as a part of their annual haunted house.

The tradition dates back to 1982 when the first event was conducted in the basement of the old Drake Hotel, now the Grace Museum. So, these college men have had a tremendous tradition of FRIGHTENING the wits out of the general public for thirty years.

This year, the Haunted House, or should we say haunted island, will be located on Loop 322/Hwy 80 on the East side of the Loop (northbound lane).  A sign will direct the unsuspecting public in the right direction so it shouldn't be hard to miss.

Wesley Racca, the fundraiser for the men's social club said, "So many Abilenians would never realize that there is an actual island right in the middle of town.  Without us doing anything, it's a tremendously eerie place after dark, often with the mist and steam rising off of the water."

The island will be in operation from October 25 to the 28, and, of course, on the 31 of October. The island will open the bridges between 7 and midnight on the 25 and 28 , and on Halloween night will be open until people stop coming.

Admission is $10 a person. Two promotional nights are being offered on October 26, Student Night, and October 28th, Church Night. On Student Night, students will receive a discounted ticket with a valid college id. On Church Night, there will be special group ticket prices for church youth groups.

The theme for this year's haunted house is "The Island Lost Through Time."  There will be everything from killer zombies, to creepy clowns.
