Abilene Historic Building May Get a Facelift

By: Katie Thompson
Updated: October 29, 2012
A historic building in downtown Abilene could get the facelift it needs thanks to a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The city has applied for a Brownfield cleanup grant for the former Lincoln Middle School building.

Back in May, the building's previous owners, Abilene ISD, decided to give the property to the city for considerations.

The grant would provide up to $200,000 in cleanup costs for things like asbestos and lead paint.

In order to receive the grant, the city must complete a transfer of ownership with AISD, and that decision is set to be approved at Thursday's city council meeting.
