Abilene ISD students at Abilene High School, Cooper High School and the Academy of Technology, Engineering, Math and Science (ATEMS) will receive nearly $73,000 in checks in recognition for their outstanding performance on last year's Advanced Placement and PSAT exams.

The awards are presented in conjunction with AISD's College Prep Initiative through funding provided by the Dodge Jones Foundation, which has supported the program for the past 10 years.

Presentation ceremonies - the College Prep Initiative Student Awards Assembly - will take place on each campus Tuesday, Oct. 30, and checks will be mailed to students who have already graduated.

More than 400 AISD students will earn incentive money for passing a total of 532 AP exams in 2011. Four 2012 Abilene High School graduates earned the noteworthy distinction of being named winners of the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average of 4 or higher on all AP exams taken.

In addition, six AISD students will receive incentive money from the College Prep Initiative for recognition by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their exceptional performance on the 2011 PSAT/NMSQT exam.
