Natural Cold, Flu Remedies

By: Kristin Anderson
Updated: October 31, 2012
With cold and flu season underway, there are a few ways to boost your immune system naturally.

Taking things like echinacea and sage can help boost your immune system and shorten the amount of time you're sick.

Also, burning essential oils like tea tree oil can help disinfect the air in your home and at work.

Since antibiotics can't cure the common cold, those who use natural remedies say it has positive affects, especially because it doesn't cause the virus to change itself over time.

"Organisms don't become resistant to natural medicines because of how complex  the natural medicines are," explains nurse practitioner Cyndi Hughs. "So, they're safe, they work, and there's no worry about creating resistant organisms."

Another way to stay healthy is to eat immune-boosting foods like onions and lots of vitamin c.
