A New Twist on an Old Halloween Tradition

Those three magic words usually are reserved until after the sun goes down on Halloween, but in the city Breckenridge, some families had other ideas.

"There's a lot of people at Halloween that do a lot of silly, crazy stuff, so taking [the kids] out in the middle of the day is just better, especially if you have little ones that are two and three years old", says mother of two and Breckenridge resident, Ashton Henderson.

While most other children are in school, some parents, like Ashton Henderson, decided to round up their per-kindergarten cowboys, superheros, and critters to enjoy the tradition, in what they say, is the safer light of day.

"I just think it's safer for the children when it's not so dark. Because there's less chance they'll get ran over or taken. And there's less creeps out during the daytime", says one Breckenridge resident.

The idea was sparked by the Chamber of Commerce, and local stores are using business, as well as buckets of candy, to draw families in.

"You may not go into the businesses just driving down the street, whereas now, you can go in and see them", one resident tells us.

Though it's a slight twist on the annual holiday tradition, the kids certainly aren't complaining.

The Chamber tells us they get a pretty high turnout for their annual daytime trick-or-treating. And parents tell us it also gives younger siblings the chance for some one-on-one time with parents while older siblings are at school.
