Novice school board received a letter from Texas Secretary of State, Hope Andrade. The letter which was sent on Wednesday, ordering it to stop any consideration of canceling it's consolidation election with Coleman.

The agenda that was posted after Monday's school board meeting for a meeting tonight, Thursday at 6:10p.m. in the Novice cafeteria, includes a possible action to postpone or cancel the consolidation election.

The letter stated that people have already voted early in the consolidation matter. Andrade went on to say "To cancel the election at this point would amount to an immediate and irrevocable disenfranchisement of all the voters that have voted in this election, as well as all the voters that would or might vote in this election between now and November 6, 2012."

Agenda for meeting tonight

Novice's agenda point number 5 states consideration and possible action to postpone or cancel district consolidation election under Texas Election Code based on the absence of a jointly approved local consolidation agreement with the Coleman Independent School District, which Novice voted down 5-0 on October 15th.

Coleman has already obtained from the Commissioner of Education a waiver of the consolidation agreement, so the election is to proceed as an election without an agreement.
