UPDATE: Decision Reached in Lake Leon Pipeline Case

By: Homa Bash
Updated: November 1, 2012
Update:

A decision was reached in the Lake Leon pipeline issue in Eastland County late Thursday afternoon.

Attorneys for landowner Jim Farrar and Hanlon Gas Company have been meeting for three weeks to hear a decision on one issue -- whether the pipeline has been abandoned and whether a temporary restraining order will remain in place or be removed.

Testimony wrapped up just after 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon and the judge told the court he would have a decision within 12 hours.

Around 5 p.m., the judge made a ruling to stay the temporary restraining order, meaning Hanlon must keep off of Farrar's property for now, and set a trial date for March 18th.

The two parties were also ordered to meet for mediation in the week prior to the trial date in an attempt to reach an agreement.

Earlier Story:

Thursday, hours of testimony saw discussion about completely different issues, such as the line's integrity, with attorneys bringing up dive and pressure tests KTAB has released before.

The main goal for the initial hearing was for the judge to decide whether to extend a temporary restraining order filed by Farrar against Hanlon Gas or to remove it and let Hanlon continue with their work.

People we spoke with are stunned it is taking so long, with hours of testimony and so many witnesses taking the stand. Many thought it would be a quick initial hearing and a quick decision after that, but obviously, that has not been the case.
