It was his love of cars that brought him to a automotive show in Dallas.
"Ever since I was little, I used to like driving around little car sets with my cars and stuff. I have posters all over my room and people always see me in car magazines, always looking through and knowing the concepts of it," said Alex Bryant, a Wylie High School 2010 graduate.
That's when Alex heard of the Buick scholarship. And in May, he found out that he was chosen for a $25,000 scholarship that could be renewed all four years in college.
"I was completely shocked. When I got this one i was jumping to the moon. I was so incredbly blessed and honored," he said.
The graphic design major says his hobby is the reason he's able to pay for his education, and now he wants to use that to combine his major with his hobby.
"I want to incorporate my career in graphic design with the automotive industry so it blends together as one," he explained.
But winning this award is more than avoiding student loans. In fact, Alex used to think furthering his education wasn't an option.
"Even going to college was, at the time, I didn't think it was even possible," he said. :And now doing it now it's totally incredible and a life thrilling experience."
When he was in elementary school, Alex was in special education classes. But because he set high goals for himself, Alex said that he has made it further than most expected.
"So coming from then until now is like a massive accomplishment in myself to say that my dreams have come true," Alex said.
And now, he wants to remind those who may not see college as an option that they, too, can do anything they put their minds to.
"To be inspiration to others that they too can also use their dreams of what they can do like art into something into careers," said Alex.
Alex is now in his first semester at Angelo State University and said it has become like a second home.
