If you've driven down Brook Hollow or Elmwood in South Abilene lately, you've probably seen dozens of campaign signs for both President Obama and Mitt Romney.

Come the day before election day, and that's no longer the case, after someone stole dozens of signs right out of people's front yards.

"I had one here, one over there, another one there...all taken," said resident Marie Nala.

Sign after sign in the neighborhood are now gone, thanks to thieves with a penchant for politics.

"I hope to God whoever did it, I hope they realize they did wrong," Nala said.

And they're not discriminating either -- a home on Elmwood now boasts a sign in place of the one in support of the president.

It reads "Someone took my Obama sign, wanted it for his yard, I guess."

The homeowner behind the sign, John Powell, said he wanted to put a lighter spin on a serious issue.

"I wanted it to be a humorous response to what I do see as intolerance toward different perspectives by the majority," he explained.

And those campaign signs aren't the only thing vandals are messing with on election eve.

On Buffalo Gap Rd., a huge Romney-Ryan sign was spray-painted with the words "Vote Obama" for everyone to see.

"I gotta figure this was someone from out of town," said Kyle McAllister of the Taylor County Republican Party. "Because people in Taylor County are pretty cool and even if we disagree politically, we don't vandalize property."

For Marie Nala, it's a petty crime that hits close to home.

"My husband served in the United States Air Force for 26 years and my sons are in the military now and I have a right to vote, for whoever I want to," she said.

Nala came home to find three signs taken out of her yard over the weekend and several of her neighbors fared the same fate.

While she was quick to replace it, she leaves the thieves with one message:

"Just stop it, we have one more day, just stop!"
