Week 10 Conversation With CHS's Todd Moebes

By: David Robinett
Updated: November 6, 2012
David Robinett talks to Cooper head coach Todd Moebes about his teams victory over San Angelo Central and this week's open date.

David Robinett said, "Coach Moebes, man alive, what a game the other night against San Angelo Central. Those guys came out ready to play, and your guys answered the bell. Talk about that dog fight  you guys had with Central."

Coach Moebes said, "It was a great football game. Central's got a great team, and, you know, it was a great atmosphere. It was a hostile environment. They were prepared. They came out and played well, you know, we did also. We put ourselves in some bad situations that we weren't able to capitalize from, but I couldn't be more proud of our kids character and poise to be able to overcome some of the things that weren't going our way."

David said, "You were in a bit of a bind, and the special teams stepped up and made a play. Fred(Lawrence) in particular. Talk about that play, and how important it was for you guys."

Coach Moebes said, "It was huge. We needed a spark. We had been moving the football and getting stops on defense, but it wasn't that electric spark, you know, with a turnover or a big score. That really electified our football team."

David said, "Now let's talk about the off week. It's weird to have it here right before the playoff start, but that's where you are at. What's your approach this week?"

Coach Moebes said, "We've got to go out and practice hard. It gives us an opportunity to have some rest and change our routine, a little because we have been in a routine since August with the schedule the way it is. We're going to go out and practice hard. We are going to focus on our fundamentals. We are going to go good on good, so that we continue to maintain our timing. By no stretch of the imagination are we going to take these 3 days off. We are going to go there and practice hard."

Cooper's regular season is over. They have their bye week this week, and the Cougars will most likely take on El Paso Americas in the 1st round of the playoffs on either November 15th, 16th or 17th.
