David Robinett talks to AHS's Steve Warren about his team's open date and their brand new outright district championship.

David Robinett said, "Coach Warren, you guys are coming off your open date, and it's kind of late in the season. You had to change up how you approach open dates. Are you pleased with the work you guys got accomplished?"

Coach Warren said, "We got a lot of good mental rest. We still stayed in our routine practice wise, but maybe not quite as physical and got a lot of rest there. We're excited about how the week went for us."

David said, "During your open date you won the outright district championship. You guys figured you were going to have to earn it that this week. Tell me about being the outright district champions and how good that feels."

Coach Warren said, "It feels great. That was 1 of the goals of this football team and our seniors. That's an awesome feeling going into Week 10 knowing that we've wrapped that up. That's a special thing, and I am really excited for our kids."

David said, "The district season is wrapping up, and you guys have to keep the momentum going. Are you concerned that the guys will come out of the open date a little flat?"

Coach Warren said, "I feel good about the way we practiced yesterday(Monday). I saw a pretty good resolve in wanting to get back on the practice field and wanting to get into that groove that we were in. If you just do what we've been doing, I think we'll be good."

The Eagles finish up the 2012 regular season on Friday night at Shotwell Stadium. Abilene High is 9 and oh. Midland High is part of a 3-way tie for 4th place in the district. The Bulldogs need a win to stay alive.
