Reminder: McMurry University to Honor Veterans with 'A Salute to Our Military'

McMurry University will host "A Salute to Our Military" beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Novemver 8 in Ryan Recital Hall and Amy Graves Ryan Art Gallery.

The public is invited to attend this free event.

The program will feature a panel discussion titled "An Informed View of Military Experience and Historical Narratives" with an emphasis on Vietnam.

The discussion group will include McMurry military panel Major Rich Brozovic, USAF, Retired, Instructor of Computer Sciences; Mr. Ken Herfurth, Adjunct Instructor of Religion; Colonel Bill Libby, USA, Retired, Professor of Religion; Specialist 4th Class Jim Quinnett, USAF, Retired, Webmaster, Colonel John Russell, USAF, Retired, President, McMurry University; Captain Joel Whittemore, USA, (Infantry), Instructor of Communications; and Lt. Colonel Allen Wilson, USAF.
The panel will use a question and answer format based on part by readings from war experiences, military commitments, experiences and personal reflections, as well as assigned student readings from

The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien and Platoon Leader by James McDonough.

In addition to the panel discussion, a special exhibit will be on display in the Ryan Fine Arts Gallery from November 2-December 3, featuring art in all mediums in honor of our military titled the McMurry Salute to the Military.

The exhibit will include 2D and 3D works created by soldiers and soldier's spouses; works created in honor of soldiers and veterans and works in response to the military experience. This may include enlistment posters, paintings, photographs, sculpture, graphic design, illustration etc. A reception will be held in conjunction with the panel discussion.

Sponsors for the event are Sigma Tau Delta, the McMurry Department of English, the McMurry Department of Art, and the McMurry School of Arts and Letters.
