Students from Cross Plains Middle School are excelling in their science class by building innovative rockets.

As part of their science class, 7th and 8th grade students spent time each week building rockets propelled by ammonium perchlorate composite. This program is part of the NASA "Summer of Innovation" Mini-Grant Program.

Few students stopped by the KTAB 4u studios to showcase their colorful, spray-painted rockets that stood taller than them to the viewers. This Friday, the rockets will be launched with the whole school watching whether or not they meet their goal. This means the rocket must be 38mm and must not go above 5, 000 ft and a rate of 20ft./per second or less.

According to rocket expert, Pat Gordzelik, if they were to pull this off, it would be a record setter due to the students' age.
