Despite their recent success, the Stamford Bulldogs haven't won a district title in 15 years. That could all change this Friday night when they take on Anson; which is very much a district championship game.

"We've put ourselves in positions to win playoff games. We've put ourselves in position to win state championships, but for some reason the district championship has eluded us. Like I told the seniors, you can be the first class in 15 years to put your name on that gold football if you take care of business," said head coach Wayne Hutchinson.

"That's a long time. We went to the state championship game last year, but we forgot to win the district title. We've been preaching that ever since I've been here that we want a [district title]. We get an opporunity Friday night right here on our turf," said Dalton Mathis.

"We're just excited its come down to the point to be at the point we are right now because it has come down to a district championship. It's going to be a playoff atmosphere Friday night against a very good Anson football team coming to town. Both playing for that district championship and a gold football. ," said Hutchinson. "We reached our first goal. We definitely have a lock for the playoffs. Our second goal is to win the district championship, and that's on the line Friday night. We're just excited and looking forward to having the opportunity to win that."

Big games are nothing new for the Bulldogs. So far this year they've played four highly ranked football teams. They include the Munday Moguls, Merkel Badgers, Colorado City Wolves, and Cisco Loboes.

Stamford hosts Anson on Friday night. Both teams are unbeaten in district play.
