You normally see Sam Nichols on KTAB News 5, 6, and 10 bringing the latest accurate, weather updates. What others may not realize is that Nichols has an organization near and dear to his heart.

Basketball Smiles is a camp focused on giving unprivileged children from the Caribbean the opportunity to spend a week learning and playing basketball, but being equipped in life through teachings and resources.

As a former basketball coach, Nichols used his passion and resources to start this organization and make a difference internationally.

Nichols says, "These kids say they're in the ghetto, but they don't think like the ghetto." Nichols and many volunteers and coaches travel to give hope and a better future for these kids. From young children to teenagers, Nichols makes it a point to help inform anyone in the camp and teach them the ways to become a great citizen.

On the show Wednesday, Nichols was given a check from his friends at the Abilene Founder Lions Club to help sponsor five kids attend the camp. For Nichols, this was a proud recognition and appreciative to be partnered with the club.

He also asks anyone that's interested and willing to help to contact him.
