A sense of excitement is radiating throughout Nolan County, especially for employees of the courthouse, jail, and sheriff's office.

The jail has been holding excess prisoners for nearly 13 years and other deficiencies in the jail nearly brought them to the brink of closure.

"So we've been needing to get this project done for quite sometime," says Nolan County Sheriff David Warren.

A new sheriff's office is included in this plan and will be built along with the jail.

As for the Nolan County courthouse, it will be getting a complete facelift, which has attracted an assortment of opinions.

"It could definitely use some work so I'm glad the voters agree with me," says Hayden Haby.

Another resident says, "I don't think it makes much difference to me really. I don't pay it that much attention."

Haby continues, "A group of us always call it the black castle because of the appearance from the outside."

For the most part, residents I spoke to agree that the changes were well overdue.

"The courthouse needed to be fixed. We were down to the point of having our jail shut down. I was so proud that they went ahead and proved that and the sheriff office included into that," says Pat McGowan.

The construction will soon be underway.

Warren says, "We'll be having meetings as soon as possible with bond council and of course the architects and construction contractor to begin the legal process of getting the bond election gratified."

The voters in Nolan County did exactly what they needed to do this election, to make sure their voice would be heard.
