APD: Officer Catches Thief in the Act on Way to Burglary Call

Wednesday night at about 9:35, Officer Cory Valencia contacted a motorist in the 1100 block of Roma Lane after seeing the motorist run a stop sign. As soon as the motorist stopped, Officer Valencia observed the occupants of the vehicle exit in an attempt to leave. The occupants were called back and the investigation revealed that there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The vehicle and occupants were searched and a baggie containing a small quantity of marijuana was located in the pocket of one of the occupants. The male occupant was arrested for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Thursday morning at about 12:45, Officer Christopher Milliorn contacted a motorist in the 900 block of North Clack Street for a traffic violation. Officer Milliorn contacted the male driver and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. During the investigation, Officer Milliorn also observed that the driver displayed indicators of intoxication. The driver conducted standard field sobriety tests which he failed. The driver was arrested and taken to county jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed that the driver's BAC was 0.174 and 0.175. The driver was arrested on an enhanced misdemeanor charge of DWI (Class A) based on the BAC results exceeding 0.15.
