Six Cowboys Honored By ASC In Soccer

ABILENE, Texas  - Senior defender Brennan Goodman and junior midfielder Matt Pitcock were named first-team all-American Southwest Conference to highlight six Cowboys earning awards in a vote of the league's head coaches.
 
Goodman, who is a three-time all-ASC selection, led a strong Cowboy defense from his sweeper position. He was surrounded by three freshmen and a first-year starter at goalkeeper. HSU's defense only allowed 24 goals in 17 games. Goodman also had three goals and three assists.
 
Pitcock led the team in scoring with six goals and nine assists. His nine assists led the ASC.
 
Senior forward Zach Johnson was named to the second team. He was fourth in the ASC with nine goals. Senior Rojo Montanez was selected to the third team.
 
Senior midfielder Cole McCarter and sophomore midfielder Taylor Jackson were named honorable mention selections.
 
Texas-Dallas swept the player of the year awards with Michael Darrow winning offensive player of the year and Brian Bienhoff winning defensive player of the year. Fellipe Albuquerque of Louisiana College was named the offensive freshman of the year and Call Casarez and Jordan Rubel of UTD were named co-defensive freshmen of the year.
 
Pete Fitzsimmons of East Texas Baptist and Caio Sousa of Louisiana College shared the sportsmanship award and Mississippi College's Kevin Johns was named ASC Coach of the Year after guiding the Choctaws to conference and regular-season titles for the first time in program history.
