APD: Officer Apprehends Shoplifter

Thursday night at about 7, Officer Blaise Dillenburg responded to a shoplifter call at a business in the 4700 block of Southwest Drive. APD Dispatch had received notification from store loss prevention about an alleged theft. Officer Dillenburg contacted a female subject alleged to have stolen several items of merchandise. The preliminary investigation revealed that the female subject was observed by store loss prevention selecting items, hiding them in a bag and then leaving the store with the items without making payment. Approximately $297.00 of stolen merchandise was recovered. The female subject was arrested for misdemeanor theft.

Thursday night at about 11:20, Officer Marc Valentine observed a vehicle at a convenience store and then conducted a records check on the vehicle license plate. The check identified two male subjects associated with the vehicle with active arrest warrants. During this investigation, Officer Valentine saw two male subjects get into the vehicle and he contacted them in the store parking lot in the 700 block of Grape Street. Both subjects identified themselves and a records check confirmed that both had active municipal arrest warrants. Subject #1 was searched and found to be in possession of three bags of marijuana in his pants, having an approximate weight of 4.75 ounces. Subject #1 was arrested for one outstanding warrant and for felony possession of marijuana. Subject #2 was arrested for three outstanding warrants.

Friday morning at about 3:55, Officer Charlie Compton contacted a motorist at the intersection of South 8 and Elm Streets after the driver ran a stop sign. Officer Compton contacted a male driver and smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle and from the driver. During this investigation the driver conducted standard field sobriety tests which he failed. The driver was arrested and taken to county jail where he provided breath samples. Breath samples taken revealed that the driver's BAC was 0.109 and 0.105. The driver was arrested for misdemeanor DWI.
