Fighting Toe Fungus with Lazers

Many people are more comfortable with their shoes on than off no matter what, but for Michael Guessford that has been the case for a while.

"I tried several remedies tee tree oil, Vicks, vinegar, over-the-counters," said Guessford.

He tried these remedies to cure fungus underneath the nails.

It is a common problem that many people live with.

Dr. Jennifer Feeny practices at Virginia's Shenandoah Podiatry and explains, "There were home remedies, such as using Listerine,  Vicks vapor rub, or tee tree oil.  Topical medication is effective less than 20 percent of the time."

The Pinpoint Laser kills the fungus underneath the nail using an infrared light.

There are three different packages offered at Shenandoah Podiatry.

The top two packages include a kit for the patient to take home.

The kit includes different tools for preventing the fungus from returning.

The laser treatment doesn't hurt.

Michael says he has noticed an immediate difference but Dr. Feeny says it usually takes about four months to really see a major difference.
