For servers at Texas Roadhouse, today's lunch was filled with fascinating stories.

"I really think it's interesting for the ones that have been in World War II," said waitress Priscilla Lawrence. "Just because they have a huge impact on our history."

The free lunch for all military members was part of a nation-wide effort to show appreciation for the veterans.

"To say thank you to a huge part of our community who have served our country over the years and especially today, honoring this holiday," said Mandy Holt, local restaurant marketer.

But for Priscilla, serving veterans today has a different meaning.

"I feel like i have a connection with everyone that comes in here just because I work, my husband is in the air force, so I know what the day-to-day lifestyle is and what we have to go through," she explained.

Though she's been in Abilene for 3 years, Priscilla and her husband grew up in military families. And soon, they'll be headed to Japan. So today is special because she loves giving back to what has become her second family.

"When you're away from your family, you have your own family at the military base that you're at," Priscilla said.

Priscilla will be leaving Abilene this week, but she's happy that she can help out within the military community one last time.

"Just makes me feel good that I'm able to help before I leave," she said. "And hopefully I can help in Japan while I'm out there as well."

Texas Roadhouse is my favorite restaurant in Abilene and this is just another reason why I will keep going there. You are some fine people and although I wasn't able to make it to lunch today, I hope next year I will be in Abilene on Veterans Day.
