Abilene City Council Backs AISD in Standardized Testing Reform Resolution

The Abilene City Council held an early-morning meeting on Tuesday to hear questions and concerns from parents and teachers regarding the trouble districts have been having with the current STAAR test.
The resolution, adopted by AISD and over 80 percent of Texas school districts, argues that high-stakes standardized testing has hurt school districts financially, stifles the learning process, and fails to regulate actual achievement, therefore failing to determine whether students are well-prepared for success in the real world.
With over $400 billion spent in developing the new test, districts are arguing that tests like the STAAR test are draining the citizens and the educational system of Texas.
If interested in taking part in asking the Texas government to rethink how schools test and measure student achievement, open the file below for more information.
