Dr. Shane Davidson Resigns Position on AISD School Board

By: AISD Press Release
Updated: November 13, 2012
After accepting a new position at the University of Evansville in Indiana, Place 7 trustee Dr. Shane Davidson announced today that he intends to resign his position as a member of the Abilene ISD Board of Trustees following the next regular meeting on Dec. 10.

Dr. Davidson, who is Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing Management at Hardin-Simmons University, has been named the Vice President for Enrollment Services at the University of Evansville in Evansville, IN.

"I am extremely grateful to the Abilene community for their love and support," said Dr. Davidson. "We have been in Abilene for 15 years, 3 months, and 13 days. I wouldn't trade my experiences for anything, but this opportunity with UE is one I could not pass up personally and professionally. I'm excited about this new chapter in my life and hope everyone will celebrate with me and my family."

Dr. Davidson's final day at HSU will be Dec. 31, and he assumes his new position at the University of Evansville on Jan. 2.

Upon accepting Dr. Davidson's resignation, which likely will be considered at the Jan. 14 meeting, the AISD Board of Trustees will have 180 days to decide to either fill the position by appointment to complete Dr. Davidson's term until the next board election, or call a special election.

Abilene ISD voters elected Dr. Davidson to the four year Place 7 seat in May 2012.

"While I've worked with Dr. Davidson for only a few months, I will surely miss his leadership, his passion, his sense of humor, but mostly I will miss his unabashed love for children," said Superintendent Dr. Heath Burns. "At every board meeting, I could count on seeing a smile on Shane's face and I enjoyed the confidence that each decision he made was for the best for every student in Abilene ISD. It has been my pleasure to work with him and wish nothing but the very best for Dr. Davidson and his family."

AISD Board of Trustees President Stan Lambert added, "I was sorry to learn that Dr. Davidson will be leaving our board. Our school board has been the beneficiary of Shane's insight and knowledge of the educational process and how we go about our mission of providing every student the very best opportunities for success and achievement in Abilene ISD. I wish him and his family well, and we will truly miss the leadership he has provided in a very short period of time since being elected, and his overall vision for our school district."

Dr. Davidson's wife, Amy, is a second grade teacher at Martinez Elementary School. The Davidsons have two sons, Hayden and Eric.
