With Thanksgiving a mere week away, the aisles at grocery stores are as stuffed as the turkeys will be  that the customers are loading in their carts.

While many are stocking up on holiday favorites, United Supermarkets is also helping locals enjoy a full spread who aren't doing the shopping.

"We decided to partner with them and do the best we could to give them the best price for all the food they need, and get that to them to help out the Veterans Dinner to make sure it is a success", says United Supermarkets general manager, Cale Theilen.

Meanwhile, across town, Meals on Wheels is no stranger to feeding folks in need, but when they heard about the Veterans Thanksgiving Dinner cancellation, executive chef, Fred Ghant got busy planning.

"I've already planned out the different varieties of the desserts, and who will be doing what, to get all this pulled off", says Ghant.

Ghant tells us that working closely with the Dyess We Care Team by making the desserts is the icing on the cake in helping a cause that's dear to his heart.

"With Abilene being a big military community,  we're all wanting to give back. But I do have family members who have either been in the military or who are in the military now", Ghant explains.

The Veterans Thanksgiving Dinner will be on Thanksgiving day, Thursday the 22nd, at the Abilene Civic Center. Everyone is welcome to drop by between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a hot holiday meal.
