Walking into P.E. class at North Elementary School on Thursday, there were no jump ropes or kickballs in sight.

"Stacking is kind of a new sport that has been around for years where the kids upstack and downstack a series of stacks [cups]", says Barbara Collinsworth, P.E. teacher.

Ms Collinsworth teaches P.E. to hundreds of students at North Elementary School, and notes the mental and physical benefits associated with Thursday's activities.

"You have to use both hands, both your right hand and your left, so it helps with eye-hand coordination, agility, and we also include some fitness into it.", explains Collinsworth.

But what do the kids think?

"It is really fun because I have been doing it this week and last week and I learned more about stacking because I didn't know that much.", says Faith Autrey, second grade.

However, today is about more than just physical and mental exercises.

"We are trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records for the most people sport stacking, in multiple locations, in one day", Collinsworth tells us.

The world stacking record is currently 5.93 seconds, held by a Massachusetts boy.

At least for this week, students at North Elementary are stacking their way to better fitness.
