West Texas has seen some tough times when it comes to water, or lack thereof during droughts.

Clyde resident, Angela Clayton, remembers how tough it was when there was so little water.

"They're talking about they're going to run out of water for this and that and not going to have water for their plants to water their plants outside. They were worried about not taking a shower or having any drinking water," she recalls.

The city of Clyde currently uses water out of their lake and purchases water from Abilene at a premium of $3.09 per thousand gallons of usage, which weighed in on the decision to buy their own water from Lake Fort Phantom Hill.

"City council looked at how many opportunities the city has had over the decades to have water security and have now acted upon that, realizing that opportunities may not present themselves in the future," says City Administrator, Keith Selman.

Clyde will be purchasing 2500 acre feet of water from Eagle Supply & Manufacturing, the current owners of the water.

Something that some Lake Fort Phantom Hill residents are not happy with.

Others however,  do not mind and say it is the responsibility of a city to look out for the good of its people.

"I really don't know where they would go to find extra water this has been the greatest volume of water since I was a child and came out here," says Ken King, a Lake Fort Phantom Hill resident.

In seizing this opportunity Clyde residents will soon be at ease, knowing that access to water will not be an issue for generations to come.

The purchase is currently under TCEQ review.

Clyde plans to own the 2500 acre feet by around March 2013.
