REDLANDS, Calif. - Hardin-Simmons' women's
basketball team fell to 0-2 with a 55-49 loss to Redlands on Saturday night in
the final game of the Redlands Tip-Off Classic in California.
Redlands jumped to an
early 8-2 lead, but HSU responded with a 14-1 run to take their biggest lead of
the game at 16-9. The Bulldogs immediately respond with an 18-6 run to take a
27-22 lead with 4:11 to play in the half. Redlands led 31-28 at halftime.
In the second half
Redlands pushed the lead out to 46-36 with 10:29 to play. However, responded
with an 8-0 run and cut the deficit to 46-44 with 6:35 to play. It was the
closest the Cowgirls would get as Redlands held off HSU down the stretch.
Jamie Heflin led the
Cowgirls with 13 points and Alexis Popelar added 10 points. Marika Staton led
Redlands with 16 points off the bench.
Both teams struggled
shooting. HSU shot 33 percent hitting 18-of-54 shots and Redlands hit 17-of-55
for 30.9 percent.
HSU will play Nov. 24
at Trinity. Redlands improved to 2-0 on the year
