The Cooper Cougars were able to outlast the El Paso Americas Trailblazers Friday night in their Bi-District match-up.

Cooper wasted no time getting on the board thanks to a long touchdown run by quarterback Lorenzo Joe. After a missed extra point the Cougars led 6-0.

The Trailblazers would answer that Cooper score with a big run and a touchdown of their own, but on separate plays. First it was Isak Washington with a long run that got the Trailblazers deep into Cooper territory. Americas capped off the drive with a short quarterback sneak by Orlando Garcia. That would make it a 7-6 game in the first quarter.

After another sneak by Garcia the Trailblazers took a 14-6 lead, but this time it was the Cougars turn to answer.

First it was Joe with yet another long run to the endzone, and then Kerry Sims found pay dirt to give the Cougars a 20-13 lead at halftime.

Americas would come right out of the lockeroom and retake the lead with a touchdown. That would be the last score for the Trailblazers. Meanwhile Cooper would rattle off twenty unanswered points to take the Bi-District title back to Abilene with a 41-20 victory.

Next the Cougars will take on Arlington High at 2 pm Friday on the campus of UT-Arlington.
