The defense helped lead the Eagles to a playoff victory Saturday afternoon against El Paso Montwood.

Montwood's first drive of the game was stopped when the Eagles defense came up with their first interception of the game. Abilene High's offense would make Montwood pay for that miscue with a touchdown by back-up quarterback Derek Scott in the "dirty bird" formation.

On the next drive for Rams was halted by yet another interception. This time by Nate Kittley. The Eagles offense would not be able to turn that pick into points, but Kittley would again keep Montwood off the board with an interception in the endzone. That halted what could have been a Montwood scoring drive. By the end of the day the Eagles defense would pick off Montwood a total of six times; two of them by Kittley.

The Eagle offense would later turn that turnover into more points. A touchdown pass from Evin Abbe to Grant Alexander would give the Eagles a 21-3 lead at halftime.

Coming out of the lockerrom the Eagles once again went down the field and score. This time it was a pass from Abbe to running back Mercell Porter for a touchdown. That score gave AHS a 28-3 lead. From there the Eagles would never look back.

The Eagles would eventually go on to win the game 34-15 after a late touchdown by the Rams.

Next up Abilene High will take on Arlington Lamar on Friday at 7 pm on the campus of UT-Arlington.
