It's an event that has forever impacted American history.

That's why Alyssa Leverton based her seventh grade school project on the John F. Kennedy assasination.

"I was so intrigued by all the conspiracy theory and everything that had gone on behind," she said.

However, she never imagined just how much she would discover.

"I just put all my time and effort in everything into it and truly it did payoff," said Leverton.

The now Colorado City senior  went on to present her project at a state competition.

Her principal was so impressed, he spoke about it to anyone he ran into including Jan and Bobby Lemons.

"And Bobby I think shared with me that they had actually taken some film," said Mark Merrell, principal at Colorado City Middle School.

They showed him an old 8 mm video they had which turns out to be the only color footage of an investigation back in 1964 a few months after the assassination.

In the video you can see a fill-in for president Kennedy with a mark in the spots where he was shot.

"I never thought anybody would be interested in it," said Bobby Lemons.

We just took this for granted that probably everybody had movies like this you know that

Somebody else had taken or whatever and we never dreamed that we had anything that anybody would like.

Today the video is on display at the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas.

The Lemons gladly donated the piece of history for all to see.

"If it's of use to them well gladly give it to them," said Lemons.

It's been a lesson to them both about just how valuable an old keepsake can be.
