David Robinett talked to AHS head coach Steve Warren about his teams 1st round victory over El Paso Montwood.

David Robinett said, "Coach Warren, you got that 1st playoff win under your belt. You guys came out and defensively you were absolutely dominant, and offensively, very methodical. Talk about the defense first and the way those guys played."

Coach Warren said, "We executed a great game plan. You know, 6 interceptions, what can you say? That's a great afternoon of defensive football.  We are really proud of what we were able to accomplish out there. Limited their opportinuties and gave ourselves a chance to make plays offensively because they had the ball a good deal.

David said, "Offensively, let's go to those guys. There was nothing spectacular about it exept that everytime they got into scoring position every time the defense picked off the ball, they went and took it in. It just seemed like you guys were always in control of that game. Is that  how it felt to you?

Coach Warren, "It really did. You know, there was 1 opportunity that we didn't put points on the board, but other than that, everytime we had the chance, we did that. That's what team football is all about. We're not real flashy on offense right now. We lost our 'WOW' factor when Keevan(Lucas) went down. We have been very methodical. Kids have stepped up in that area and understand that we are going to move the chains and move down the field and get it in the end zone."

David said, "I've been saying that a lot about you guys about that fact that it always seems like you are in control. How does that happen? Is that the kids? Is it just the way the game goes? It feels like you guys control your destiny every time you go out there."

Coach Warren said, "That's kind of the feel around the entire program. We like to create an atmosphere that all we can control is us. So, if we do a good job of that in here inside these walls and in practice then on game night, it's no big deal. We just control what we control. We go about in a business-like fashion, and you look at the end of the day, and we may not beat people 65-0, but we get the wins and that's all that's important to us."

The Eagles continue the postseason on Friday in Arlington. They play the 2nd game of a double header with Cooper against Arlington Lamar at 7 at the University of Texas-Arlington.
