David Robinett talks to Cooper head coach Todd Moebes about his teams victory over El Paso Americas in the Class 5A Division 2 playoffs.

David Robinett said, "Coach Moebes, you got that 1st playoff win under your belt. It wasn't as easy as many thought it might be, but your guys really responded, well. When Americas punched y'all in the mouth, you guys answered right back."

Coach Moebes said, "You've got to be able to do that in playoff football or football in general. Those guys practice all year long, and they are a good football team. We knew that going into it. They came out there and threw their shots, and we threw ours. It was kind of back and forth there for a little bit, and I was proud of the way our guys finished off the game."

David said, "They responded well.  Being down 8 at 1 point in this game, they just came right back, and when they got hit again, they came right back. Tell me what that says about your football team."

Coach Moebes said, "It says a lot. Our guys have poise. They have confidence. They have composure. They've been down before and have been able to come back and been able to keep a lead and extend it. When you're playing your 11th football game, going into your 12th, we've been in just about every situation you can be in, and you've got to be able to draw on those past experiences when you get into playoff time and turn them into positive things for you."

David said, "Lorenzo(Joe) came up with those 2 big runs in the 1st half that kept you guys in it. Talk about his play in that game, and how you feel like he handled his 1st playoff start at quarter."

Coach Moebes said, "I thought he did a great job. Those runs were huge, especially, the 1st one.  On 4th down, a little play action, just get him out the back door. He did a great job of selling it. He really drew the defense towards the running back, and he was able to come out the back door with a bunch of field to run in. I thought he did a great job all night long. He moved the chains. He did a good job of scrambling. He was smart with the football. We are going to need him to continue to do that."

Cooper plays the 1st game of the day on Friday in Arlington. They take on Arlington High at the University of Texas Arlington at 2.
