The completion date for the rail park/
spur at the new industrial park has been
pushed back to Dec. 5.
Bill Lavers, executive director of the Development Corporation of Snyder (DCOS), said Trac-Works, Inc. of Amarillo originally hoped to have the rail facility complete before Thanksgiving.
However, some lost time, due to soggy conditions, has not been made up. Lavers said additional fill work had to be completed to level off the area.
While work has been delayed, BNSF crews are on-site daily to make sure the work meets specifications.
"Once the park is finished, WL Plastics wants trains to start rolling," Lavers said.
One other project which needs to be complete is turning on signal lights. Lavers said Big Country Electric Cooperative has run lines for the signals, which will be turned on once the project is complete. Building the rail park/spur was one of the incentives that led WL Plastics to build in Snyder.
In April, the DCOS board approved spending $843,453 to construct the park/ spur at the new industrial park.
The initial contract specifications included costs to both DCOS and WL Plastics. The company will pay $477,144 for its portion of the rail spur. The overall cost for the project will be $1.32 million, which is below the estimate of $1.44 million. One reason the DCOS has a higher portion of the expense is due to dirt work that had to be done, Lavers said.
Lavers previously said he knew the cost was high, but the impact will have a lasting effect.
