When remembering Spencer LaBrie, his high school coaches use works like determined, passionate and fun to be around to describe him.

"An exceptional athlete and an exceptional baseball player for us," said Wylie head baseball coach Clay Martin. "An extremely hardworking young man."

"Just his consistency with a tremendous effort is something that I remember more than anything," said Russell Perkins, head basketball coach at Wylie.

Spencer acted as a role model for those playing baseball and basketball now. Which is exactly what his coaches hoped he would be in his time at Wylie.

"All of our kids remember and know what he did and know that he was successful in so many things, on and off the courts and fields that he got to do with," said Perkins.

And it's something that both coaches saw in action. With sons who are seniors now, they spoke of how Spencer was a role model for both of them.

"You know, Spencer, on several occasions took him kind of under his wing and just was a very good teammate," Martin explained.

"He never played on a team that Spencer was on, but he was at practice and he watched him. How a kid of his size and tings like that could still be very successful in what he did," said Perkins. "You know, all of our kids have seen that. And Spencer was the epitome of that."

And it's that example of determination and hard work that his coaches hope will be taught to their players.

"They would know how much time and effort, dedicated he was to being an athlete, being a student. And just to life in general," Martin said.  "And I think that's what I hope would carry on from Spencer."
