Warmer than average temperatures are affecting more than just your wardrobe selection this fall.

"The warm weather this fall has really been good for us because it extended our planting season," says Todd Hooper of Garden World in Abilene.

And with the prolonged planting season comes an increase in the number of customers preparing for the inevitable winter.

"Warm weather always seems to bring them out [customers]. They are getting mulch to prepare for the winter months. There is still time for that," explains Hooper.

But not everyone is embracing the warm weather.

"I would like to see a hard freeze. We need a hard freeze, and rain also," states Bonnie Williams, a Christmas shopper at Garden World.

Although it could be damaging to some plants, and would signal the end of the planting season, there are some benefits to a hard freeze.

"The colder weather always helps keeping down insects and fungus. It is a hit and miss thing. We like to see it come, but we like the longer growing season also," says Hooper.
